Sim Association Season 3 AFC Preview

There have been massive changes in the league coming into season 3. One retirement (Tom Brady) and one trade (Ben Roethlisberger) have led to a youth movement across the AFC at QB. Rookies will start in New England, Cincinnati and Los Angeles, with Pittsburgh and Buffalo also giving strong consideration. The best teams from a season ago, look to be loaded again. It will take a lot for a sleeper to unseat the upper echelon in the AFC.
On to the predictions (Order is based on Predicted Seed Finish)

New England Patriots helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Juke Team Overall: 88 (#1 Seed, Loss in AFC Championship)

Best Overall Player:

WR Brandon Cooks 95 OVR

2018 Stats: 69 Rec, 1643 Yards, 17 TDs

b cooks (1)

Best Draft Pick:

a carver

Outlook:

The Patriots have one of the best rosters in the AFC, but Tom Brady is gone. This ownership group and staff have shown their abilities to groom great quarterbacks, but will that be enough? Will there be an itchy trigger finger? Drew Brees is looking for another chip, and probably not happy with the bill of goods sold to him to get him to sign in New England. No more Edelman, no more Gronk, the front 7 has some holes. Never the less, The Pats finish with the one seed.

Los Angeles Chargers helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Michael Pluth Team Overall: 89 (#2 Seed, Loss in Super Bowl)

Best Overall Player:

DE Joey Bosa 99 OVR

2018 Stats: 95 Tackles, 22 TFLs, 22.5 Sacks, 2 FF, 1 FR

j bosa

Best Draft Pick:

x rice

Outlook:

The best overall roster in the AFC, the Chargers were buoyed by shrewd moves from previous seasons. Although they won the AFC West, the 3rd and 4th overall picks were made by Los Angeles. They also moved up to acquire a Franchise Quarterback. They had one the best drafts in season 3, all of that bookended by the moves of the offseason in the AFC. Landon Collins comes in to team with Earl Thomas III and give the Chargers the best safety combo in the NFL. During the preseason the Chargers acquired Tyron Smith, LT from Dallas. Two monster players. This team is poised to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

Tennessee Titanshelmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: ChandlerW Team Overall: 87 (#3 Seed, Loss in Wild Card Round)

Best Overall Player:

LT Taylor Lewan 94 OVR

2018 Stats: 16 Games Started, 4 Sacks Allowed

t lewan

Best Draft Pick:

k draughn

Outlook:

The most consistent team in the AFC so far, the season 1 champs were close to their goal again. Marcus Mariota showed late last season he can get it done (when healthy). Derrick Henry takes over as the lead back, as DeMarco Murray has been in some trade talks. The oline is still one of the best, while the secondary leads a solid defensive unit. Watch for A.J. Hitchens to emerge as an elite WR this season. However, the run ends short in a playoff matchup with the Jets.

Cleveland Browns helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Spayer419 Team Overall: 85 (#4 Seed, Loss in Wild Card Round)

Best Overall Player:

DE Myles Garrett 99 OVR

2018 Stats: 69 Tackles, 16 TFLs, 20.0 Sacks

m garrett

Best Draft Pick:

j perriman

Outlook:

The biggest turn around a season ago, once again the Browns will win the division, but not as a 2 seed. The rookie’s last season were great on offense, but maybe left a little to be desired on D. Highly touted Ace Moss has been shopped hard after a safety was drafted twice by Cleveland. The North may struggle this year, but the Browns will prevail. One more year of the process may get The Land closer to the Super Bowl.

Houston Texans helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: BenTheGreat Team Overall: 85 (#5 Seed, Loss in Divisional Round)

Best Overall Player:

WR DeAndre Hopkins 98 OVR

2018 Stats: 93 Rec, 1999 Yards, 25 TDs

d hopkins

Best Draft Pick:

j smithson

Outlook:

The high powered Texans will be in the playoffs again. The defense is getting older, but that offense can score with anyone in the League. Watch for Deshaun Watson’s health this season. All those weapons, and they may not be able to protect the reigning MVP.

New York Jets helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Imperfect611 Team Overall: 85 (#6 Seed, Loss in Divisional Round)

Best Overall Player:

SS Jamal Adams 93 OVR

2018 Stats: 86 Tackles, 10 TFLs, 2.5 Sacks, 4 INTs, 11 Defl, 4 FF, 4 FR, 3 TDs

j adams

Best Draft Pick:

g siler

Outlook:

The jets have talent at skill positions, and play a brand of sim that most don’t the entire roster is used, and as the team is better, they will have a better record. The key is Sam Bradford, because no one wants to see Philip Rivers or Jay Cutler, but that QB room would be interesting. Look for Siler to be in contention for ROY all season. The force of the team, the offensive line, will have to play well for a deep playoff run.

Baltimore Ravens helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Neal Mason Team Overall: 85

Best Overall Player:

MLB C.J. Mosley 93 OVR

2018 Stats: 123 Tackles, 14 TFLs, 3.5 Sacks, 4 INTs, 10 Defl, 2 FF

cj mosely

Best Draft Pick:

v williamson

Outlook:

Last season’s offseason super team fell flat. They will be on the outside looking in once again. The draft was mediocre as well. Where will the points come from on this team? Look for Mitch Trubisky to keep running until teams make him pay in the open field.

Pittsburgh Steelers helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Michael Martin Team Overall: 87

Best Overall Player:

WR Antonio Brown 97 OVR

2018 Stats: 38 Rec, 681 Yards, 4 TDs

a brown

Best Draft Pick:

d spach

Outlook:

The Super Bowl Champions miss the playoffs? Yep. Too much offseason upheaval. Ben may not have started, but he was sure used in key situations, and there is a rookie there now. Key pieces of the roster also were traded in curious moves. Spach is legit, but was giving up all the Steelers worth it when they had a Super Bowl team?

Oakland Raiders helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: ieploitD Team Overall: 85

Best Overall Player:

LOLB Khalil Mack 99 OVR

2018 Stats: 77 Tackles, 11 TFLs, 15.5 Sacks, 2 INTs, 3 Defl, 1 FR, 2 TDs

k mack

Best Draft Pick:

b bortles

Outlook:

The Raiders missed out on a division title by one game, and they won’t be in the dance once again. An aging roster, though with some super stars, where will the offense come from? The defense is older, but Bortles could be a force teamed with Mack and others. I could see the Raiders making a run or blowing it up completely to get young fast.

Cincinnati Bengals helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Glen Cieske Team Overall: 81

Best Overall Player:

TE Tyler Eifert 96 OVR

2018 Stats: 35 Rec, 485 Yards, 1 TD

t eifert

Best Draft Pick:

m floyd

Outlook:

The second worst team from a season ago, the Bengals will be marginally better this year. Expect the young QB Floyd to get as much work as possible, as the Bengals try to speed his development. There are weapons on the offense, but can they keep the other team from scoring?

Miami Dolphins helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: AntonioT: Team Overall: 78

Best Overall Player:

HB Jay Ajayi 94 OVR

2018 Stats: 169 Att, 793 Yards, 5 TDs

j ajayi

Best Draft Pick:

s donahue

Outlook:

The Jekyl and Hyde Dolphins made a nice impact in the draft. Can they put those young players with a core of very talented veterans? The east at the top is very difficult, but Miami can be competitive. One more year for the Fins, then look out.

Indianapolis Colts helmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Blackhawk375 Team Overall: 80

Best Overall Player:

QB Andrew Luck 94 OVR

2018 Stats: 310/549 56%, 4496 Yards, 20 TDs/36 INTs

a luck

Best Draft Pick:

s zemetis

Outlook:

Ownership in Indianapolis are trying there hardest to turn the roster over. It seems to be working. Another solid draft has the Colts poised for contention in a season or two, but this year looks to be a wash. Andrew Luck is Andrew Luck though. He can lead an average roster to the playoffs. The Colts faithful can only hope.

Denver Broncoshelmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Chaps Team Overall: 85

Best Overall Player:

LOLB Von Miller 99 OVR

2018 Stats: 94 Tackles, 15 TFLs, 27.5 Sacks, 2 Defl, 2 FF

v miller

Best Draft Pick:

d garrett

Outlook:

After a terrible couple of offseason moves left the Broncos out of the first three rounds of the draft, Denver looks to get back on track. Is it Bortles Service in Denver? You bet. Bring your lunch, because the defense is still nasty.

Jacksonville Jaguarshelmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Joshua Keating Team Overall: 85

Best Overall Player:

CB Jalen Ramsey 94 OVR

2018 Stats: 75 Tackles, 2 TFLs, 6 INTs, 21 Defl, 2 FF

j ramsey

Best Draft Pick:

k tate

Outlook:

A possible sleeper team a season ago, the Jaguars just didn’t perform. They have as much talent as many teams in the league, on both sides, but consistency is the key. They did have a big win last year against the Titans. Jacksonville will try to build on that as they move forward this season.

Kansas City Chiefshelmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: The Phenomenal One Team Overall: 83

Best Overall Player:

TE Travis Kelce 99 OVR

2018 Stats: 38 Rec, 575 Yards, 2 TDs

t kelce

Best Draft Pick:

d stone

Outlook:

The Chiefs may be in a lot of low scoring games, as they build their offense to grind it out in multiple tight end sets. Quarterback play has been an issue, so maybe a philosophy change is in order. The defense still has a few playmakers, but their drafts the last two seasons have given them new starting ends to build around.

Buffalo Billshelmets 3_clipped_rev_1

Team Owner: Xxclaywilliamxx Team Overall: 78

Best Overall Player:

DT Marcell Dareus 90 OVR

2018 Stats: 83 Tackles, 20 TFLs, 1.5 Sacks, 1 Defl, 1 FF, 1 FR

m darius

Best Draft Pick:

a nichols

Outlook:

Buffalo will bring up the end of the standings this season. In a rebuild it seems, the last two drafts have been fruitful, with speed coming to both sides of the ball. A new quarterback in Blaylock will also bring some excitement to the Bills and their fans. That kid can sling it.
